American Academy of Pediatrics
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and its member pediatricians dedicate their efforts and resources to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults. The AAP has approximately 55,000 members in the United States, Canada and Latin America. Members include pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists. The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. The mission of the organization is to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. To fulfill this mission, the American Diabetes Association funds research, publishes scientific findings, provides information and other services to people with diabetes, their families, health care professionals and the public and advocates for scientific research and for the rights of people with diabetes.

Joanne Larsen is a Registered Dietitian with over 20 years of hospital and clinical experience in nutrition counseling. She also brings her teaching experiences at the University at Minnesota Duluth, Lakewood Community College, Northeast Metro Technical College and Normandale Community College. ASPEN Worldwide

Canadian Diabetes Association
Charles Best, the co-discover of insulin, had a vision. Very early on he saw that the growing number of Canadians with diabetes were going to require an organization to serve their needs. In 1949, the Diabetic Association of Ontario was formed. As the provinces and territories formed their own associations, it became clear that if the provincial branches combined their resources they could more effectively serve their membership. This culminated in the formation of Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA). With 170 branches across the country, CDA is the largest non-governmental supporter of diabetes research, education and advocacy. Canadian Paediatric Society
The Canadian Paediatric Society is a national advocacy association committed to the health needs of children and youth. Since 1922, the CPS has worked to: advocate for the health and well-being of children and youth, promote quality health care for all Canadian children and youth, provide professional development opportunities for paediatricians, establish Canadian standards and guidelines for paediatric care and practice, promote the interests of children and youth and their physicians. Centre for Health Promotion: Health Communication Unit
The Health Communication Unit is a provincial resource centre funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health, Health Promotion Branch. Begun in 1993, it was developed to provide training and support in health communication. In 1997/98, its mandate was expanded to include health promotion planning, evaluation and policy change. It is one of three fully funded research units at the Centre for Health Promotion, University of Toronto, along with the Ontario Tobacco Research Unit (at the Addiction Research Foundation), and the Quality of Life Research Unit.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), located in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, is an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) performs many of the administrative functions for the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a sister agency of CDC, and one of eight federal public health agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services. Food Biotechnology Communications Network
The Food Biotechnology Communications Network (FBCN) is becoming Canada's leading information source for balanced, science-based facts about food biotechnology and its impact on our food system. In fact, FBCN is the only national organization to bring together all the interests of food biotechnology, right from the farmer to the consumer. As a result, FBCN brings both neutrality and strong credibility to the information we provide. FBCN offers a range of services including information referrals, a regional network of experts, a website and issues management activities. Joint initiatives are also important. The highly successful "A Growing Appetite for Information" was prepared in coordination with the Consumers' Association of Canada. Health Promotion Online
The Health Promotion and Programs Branch (HPPB) of Health Canada plays a national role in improving the physical and mental health and well-being of Canadians. HPPB develops, supports, promotes and coordinates health promotion and disease prevention programs. The branch also funds research projects and community-based projects which are consistent with the branch's programs and priorities, and is involved in the collection and dissemination of information. HPB Environmental Health Directorate

Heart Health Resource Centre
The Heart Health Resource Centre (HHRC) is a project of the Ontario Public Health Association and is funded through the Community and Health Promotion Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The HHRC provides support to Ontario communities who are planning, delivering and/or evaluating comprehensive community-based heart health strategies. NYU-Nutrition Department

US Agency for International Development
The U.S Agency for International Development is the U.S. federal government agency that implements America's foreign economic and humanitarian assistance programs. US Food & Drug Administration
